Rajan and Stalin, the Assistant Secretaries of MMSSS from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Dr. John Arokiaraj, from Caritas India South Zone, Mr. Rajbharath of Madras Social Service Society and Mr. S. Arokiaraj of Sivagangai Multipurpose Social Service Society were the Resource Persons.
The Program began with a Prayer song and the Chief Coordinator Mr. Justin gave a warm welcome to the team of Dr. John Arokiaraj and the Participants. Fr. Rajan felicitated the Team and briefed about the historical background and the implementation of the first and second phases of Ezhuvom Iyakkam. In his inaugural address, he explained the 4Ps in Social Work and they are – Person, Problem, Place and Process. These are very important in identifying the right persons for giving awareness about cancer. Every year February 4th is commemorated as World Cancer Day and there are many advertisements in the media to eradicate cancer, but there is no strict measure to ban the production of tobacco. This is the message that has to be taken to the young generations who are very much affected by tobacco products.
Dr. John Arokiaraj gave a short introduction about this meeting. The day’s program was conducted in an interactive manner by sharing the Expectations and Contributions of all participants. He also expressed that the volunteers are involved in creating awareness, providing guidance / counseling and in mobilizing resources. Caritas India is in the process of promoting many volunteers who could also function as Resource Persons
Mr. Arokaraj elaborated the types of cancer, its causes and impact. He emphasized that women who take pills for birth control and for postponement of menstruation and who avoid breast feeding are prone to be affected by Breast / Uterus cancer.
The participants from three partner DSSS engaged in Group work on Volunteerism and presented their outcome.
The program came to an end with the feedback session and personal sharing from the participants and vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Thavamani, a volunteer from MMSSS.
