International Women’s’ Day Celebration

MMSSS celebrated International Women’s Day in all the regions with meaning and
message. Madurai region had the red-lettered day on 15th March 2023 at the Central
office, Madurai.
Smt.Saraswathy, Councilor, Madurai Corporation flagged off the Cancer Awareness
procession and then the scheduled programme for the women’s day was kicked off in the
decorated stage at the beautiful premises of MMSSS. The function was presided over by
Rev. Fr. Jerome Eronimus, Vice president of MMSSS in the august presence of more
than 200 members from the self help groups. “A heroic woman on her Journey to
Liberation” was the theme of the event.
The invocation song by the members from Gnanaolivupuram Self Help Group got rolling
the function. Smt.Veeralakshmi welcomed the gathering and the special guests were
honored with crowns and shawls.
Dr. Jamuna Rani emphasized the importance of physical and mental health of women.
She pitched on the bounded duty of women in the maker of the next generation. She gave
tips on the nutritious food habits and the health style of woman as a mother.
Comrade. Arockiamary, a leader of Tamizhaga Communist Party shared her experience
in the field of social work and she proudly proclaimed that the Communist philosophy
was the backbone of her struggles on the journey of liberation. Smt. Jessi Mathul Fathima
an advocate highlighted the legal provisions for gender equality. She shed light on the
amendments in the past through human right wars waged by the Social activists.
Rev. Fr. Jerome Eroniums, Vice President of MMSSS and the Vicar General of Madurai
Archdiocese in his presidential felicitation enumerated the legacies of women in the
society.
Ms. Divyabarathi, document film director was vociferous in countering the false images
imposed on women by the society in the disguise of tradition and culture. She was
expressive on the self reliance of women. She insisted on the importance of women
becoming technical savvy.
Rev. Sr. Daisy, the Madurai Provincial of the congregation of Immaculate Conception in
her key note addresses the necessity of education in the empowerment of women in the
journey towards liberalization.
Rev. Fr. Alvares Sebastin, Procurator Madurai Arch Diocese, Rev. Fr. Paarivalan, Rev.
Fr. Deva, Rev. Fr. Vinoth Mathias and Sisters from Assumption House graced the
occasion as special guests.
Self-help Group members staged an awareness song and folk dances.
The International Women’s Day was marked by the pledge led by Ms. Jacintha Joseph
and the mega event came to an end with vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Maria
Arockiam.
Ms. Carolin was the Mistress of Ceremony and the programme was well orchestrated in
the amazing coordination by the Assistant Secretaries Rev. Fr. Rajan, and Rev. Fr. Stalin
with the collaboration of Mr. Justin and Ms. Maria, the team members of Madurai region.

sumptuous lunch was served to everyone.
